Upon landing, you will meet your porter and begin the trek. The trek starts with a gentle descent along the Dudh Koshi River. You will trek through charming Sherpa villages across colorful prayer flags and mani walls to the tranquil village of Phakding.

Day 4

Trek to Namche Bazaar

From Phakding, you will trek to Namche Bazaar, the commercial hub of the Khumbu region. Your journey takes you along the Dudh Koshi River and across several suspension bridges, including the Hillary Suspension Bridge. Upon crossing this iconic bridge, you will head toward Monjo. You need to submit your permit at the checkpoint before officially entering the Sagarmatha National Park. As you continue your journey, you will follow the steep ascent through pine and rhododendron forests. Your effort is rewarded with breathtaking Himalayan views, with the first distant glimpse of Mount Everest before finally reaching the vibrant Sherpa town of Namche Bazaar.

Day 5

Rest day at Namche Bazaar. Hiking to the Everest View Hotel, Khumjung village

Today is your first acclimatization day. Acclimatization while trekking in high-altitude regions, like the Himalayas, is crucial. This helps your body to adjust to the thin atmosphere, significantly reducing the risks of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) or altitude sickness.

To aid in acclimatization, you will follow the “climb high, sleep low” strategy. Today, you will hike to the Everest View Hotel. From the hotel’s terrace, you can enjoy the panoramic vistas of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and other surrounding peaks. Upon returning, you will take a short detour to the charming Sherpa village of Khumjung and visit its ancient museum before returning to your teahouse in Namche for the night.

Day 6

Trek to Thame

From Namche, you will head west to the tranquil village of Thame. The trail diverts from the conventional Everest Base Camp trekking route and offers a more serene trekking experience. Today’s trek takes you through picturesque forests and past several chortens and mani stones.

After a 5 to 6-hour hike, you will find yourself surrounded by the stunning Kongde Ri and other majestic peaks in Thame. Take the time to visit its historical monastery perched on a hillside.

Day 7

Trek to Lungden

Leaving the birthplace of iconic mountaineers, including Tenzing Norgay, behind, you will continue toward the higher altitude and more remote settlement of Lugden. As you reach the higher elevations, you will experience a more rugged and alpine landscape with sparse vegetation. Continue the uphill climb to your overnight destination, relishing the Himalayan vistas, passing small Sherpa villages and yak pastures.

In Lungden, you will find a small collection of teahouses/lodges that serve as a preparation hub for the Renjo La Pass crossing.

Day 8

Early morning over Renjo La pass and trek to Gokyo

Today is a challenging day as you will cross the first of the three high passes, the Renjo La Pass. Despite the strenuous journey, you will be rewarded with awe-inspiring views and an unparalleled sense of accomplishment.

The trek to Renjo La Pass starts early. Throughout your journey, you will find panoramic views of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, and the entire Gokyo Valley. Upon reaching the summit, you can experience a sense of serenity amid the fluttering prayer flags.

After spending some time soaking in the incredible vistas, you will descend to the Gokyo village for breakfast and trek through the Ngozumpa Glacier to the remote settlement of Thangnak.

Day 10

Trek to Lobuche

Compared to the previous days, today’s trek is shorter and gentler. This allows your legs to recover after the strenuous journey across the rugged terrain. Today, you will trek to Lobuche, following a scenic trail. Ama Dablam and Cholaste vistas keep you company throughout today’s journey as it merges with the main EBC trail near Lobuche.

After 3 to 4 hours, you will reach the small village of Lobuche at the foot of the Lobuche Peak. The quaint settlement primarily serves as a stopover before heading to Everest Base Camp.

Day 12

Trek to Gorakshep and visit Everest base camp (EBC)

Today, you will trek to Everest Base Camp, the foot of the world’s highest peak. The trek begins from Lobuche and heads toward Gorakshep, the last inhabited settlement before EBC. You will first check into your hotel and continue your journey after a quick lunch.

After spending some time, you will descend back to Gorakshep for breakfast. After breakfast, continue your journey to Lobuche to spend the night.

Day 14

Early morning over Kongma La pass and trek to Chhukung

Today, you will trek to the final of the three Everest high passes, the Kongma La Pass. Compared to the previous passes, this is significantly more challenging due to the rocky and sometimes icy terrain and the altitude.

You will start your day navigating the Khumbu Glacier and take on a strenuous climb to the Kongma La pass. Reaching the vantage point gives you stunning views of Makalu and the surrounding valleys. Next, you will head down a steep and technical trail that leads you to the picturesque Imja Valley and Chukkung. Overnight stay at Chukkung.

Day 15

Trek to Tengboche

After a strenuous climb, you will follow the downhill trails, offering well-deserved relief after the high-altitude ascents. The journey to Tengboche takes you through Imja Valley and passes through traditional Sherpa Villages like Dingboche and Pangboche. You will continue the journey along the Dudh Koshi River and lush sub-tropical forests before reaching the spiritual hub of the Khumbu region, Tengboche.

Here, you can visit the magnificent Tengboche Monastery and participate in evening prayers with the resident monks, relishing the breathtaking views of Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam.

When is the Best Time for the Nepal Everest Three Passes Trek and the Everest Base Camp Adventure?

The best time for the Everest Three Passes Trek and Everest Base Camp adventure depends on individual preferences. However, spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are considered the most ideal seasons. These seasons are characterized by warmer temperatures, less rainfall, and clearer views, making trekking in the Himalayas ideal.

Spring is the post-winter month. The weather is warmer and has longer days. In the lower regions, you will find the forests and the hills adorned in vibrant shades of rhododendron and wildflower blossoms. However, there are slight chances of an afternoon shower, but it should not significantly disrupt your trekking itinerary.

Likewise, autumn is the peak trekking season in the Himalayas. The Everest Base Camp trails are usually packed with trekkers, but the trail to Gokyo Ri and the three passes are mostly secluded. Autumn is known for lesser rainfall and unobstructed views of the Himalayan peaks.

While trekking in winter is still possible, it requires detailed preparations and additional gear. Also, the upper regions can be inaccessible due to snow. On the other hand, monsoon is the least favorable season for trekking in the Everest region. The trails are usually slippery with higher risks of accidents and injury.

Everest Three Passes Trek Permits (with Everest Base Camp)

The Everest Three Passes Trek and Everest Base Camp journey requires travelers to obtain three key permits. Your permits are checked at the Monjo checkpoint. The following are the three mandatory permits:

Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit: NPR 3000 (approx. USD 25) per person for foreign nationals.

Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Entrance Permit: NPR 2,000 (approx. USD 17) per person

Trekkers' Information Management System (TIMS) Card: Trekkers are required to carry their TIMS card before beginning their Everest Base Camp Trek. The permit costs NRS 2000 per person.

*Note: GMT Adventures makes necessary arrangements for all required permits, ensuring a hassle-free Everest adventure.
